A group of X Country runners headed off to Lanhydrock to participant in the renewed Cornwall Schools Road Relays. The format was each person would run one lap of the course, which was a hilly mile.
The Year 10/11 mixed team was first off, with Malachy Cash running sensibly, taking the lead on the last corner and sprinting over the change over line to give Abby Cayton Smith a 50m advantage. She kept this lead intact handing over to Lowenna Hawkey who had to work very hard to keep in front of a very fast boy chasing her down. Lowenna ran hard keeping him behind to last 200m, when he edged in front, this did not dishearten Tom Luton, who straight away regained the lead and continued to open up the lead to give Tretherras the victory by 45 seconds.
The Year 7 boys were next up and Cameron Frazer, Gerran Hawkey and Lucas Moses ran really well, never giving up and finished 5th overall. The year 7 girl’s lead off by Erin Burt took an early lead with Erin leading by 20m at the end of her leg. Imogen Jones ran really well, up against a strong runner from Penryn, she worked hard to hand over to Grace Halzedine in 2nd place. Grace ran hard to try and catch the leader but unfortunately couldn’t catch her, finishing a very credible 2nd.
The year 8/9 girls were up next and a great run from Shannon Beckerleg put Tretherras slightly ahead at the end of the 1st leg. Elowen Penfold increased this lead with a great run and handed over to Phoebe McCauley who kept her calm and maintained the lead to give the victory to Tretherras.
The last race was the Year 8/9 boys which was lead off by Lewis Cotteril, Lewis found himself in a battle for 3rd/4th at the end of the first leg and handed over to Lewis McDonald with little in it. Lewis put Tretherras into 3rd place, handing over to Louis Garner with a good lead over Bodmin in 4th. Louis worked hard to maintain this lead and gave Tretherras another excellent result in 3rd place.
Well done to everyone who ran, great effort by all.
