On 2nd July, Year 10 Triple Scientists from Newquay Tretherras spent the day at Cornwall College for the first ever STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Fair and Aerospace Challenge.
Workshops throughout the day included combustion reactions involving rockets, CAD creations and conservation work. The students then competed in the Aerospace Challenge in which they were asked to create and fly model aircraft.
University representatives and renowned STEM employers also attended to talk to the students about the amazing opportunities in industries from pharmaceuticals and microbiology to aerospace and app design.
Mr Preston, Teacher of Science at Tretherras said, “The students conducted themselves amazingly well today, demonstrating great curiosity, interest and creativity – all attributes highly valued in the many and varied STEM industries. I hope they have a better idea about some of the many kinds of work available in the sector.”
