Loud rock music and dazzling stage effects set the scene for Newquay Tretherras’ whole school production of  ‘Schools Will Rock You’.

The schools biggest and most ambitious show yet was host to a Harley Motorcycle, 80s rock clothing and some of biggest and greatest hit songs from Queen.

The 4 evening productions were preceded with a special morning show that welcomed primary children from St Columb Major, Trevisker, Bishops CofE, and St Columb Minor Primary schools.

The musical, set in a future where making real music is banned, sees a group of Bohemians fight against the Killer Queen, played by,Chloe Ann Roberts, and her loyal first lieutenant Kashoggi, played by Joe Gartan.

In order to return rock music to it’s former glory, Year 10 students Jake Graham (as Galileo) and Rachel Millington (as Scaramouche) join the rebellion, with amazing individual vocal performances. Emma Chamberlain (as Meatloaf) and Luke Ball (as Britney Spears), performed incredible supporting duets and led the Bohemians cause to see music reborn at the ancient site of Wembley Stadium.

The live rock band, consisting of a mixture of GCSE and A level Music students, accompanied all musical performances. Audience participation was willing (as is custom in all Tretherras shows), creating an atmosphere that raised the roof.

The large ensemble of student cast, dancers, stage crew and local primary performers was as a fantastic success.

Mrs Cate Halford, Director of her first NT production said, “The students have put in huge amounts of time and effort, both on the stage and behind the scenes, and their talent shone through. A massive well done to everyone that was involved.”

Headteacher, Mrs Sue Martin said, “What a fabulous show! I have to congratulate Mrs Halford on her first show at Newquay Tretherras. There has been an incredible amount of work put in to it by all the rest of the team. Congratulations on such a brilliant production.”

Following the performance the academy received numerous comments from various audience members who all stated that the performance had been incredibly professional and impressive in every respect.

Former student, Emily Wilkins who has been studying Dance at Roehampton University commented, “I just watched the Newquay Tretherras production of ‘We Will Rock You’ and was absolutely blown away by the talent. Well done to all the cast!”
