The Cornwall County Cross Country Championships were held at Newquay Sports Centre on Saturday 23rd January. It was the first time in 30 years that this event did not take place at Truro School.
On a very wet and tricky course, there were notable results from the Newquay Tretherras athletes in both individual and team performances.
Amongst the individual Tretherras athletes, Erin Burt finished 2nd in the Junior Girls race while Bradley McLellan also finished 2nd in the Junior Boys event, running a year younger than most of his competitors.
Noah Bygrave finished 3rd on a very tough 5km course in the Senior Boys race.
Kelsey Rock in Year 7 also showed incredible progress to finish in 30th position in the Year 7 Girls event, to help her team become overall winners.
In the overall Team results, the Newquay Tretherras Year 7 Girls, Maddie Lydon, Sofie Alecock-Smith, Poppy Roberts and Kelsea Rock as well as the Junior Girls comprising of Erin Burt, Nisa Bowden-Inoue, Sydney Godwin and Lauren Webster both won their team race events.
Junior Boys, Inter Girls and Inter Boys all came 2nd in their respective races with the Year 7 boys coming in 3rd.
Mr Dean Bettle, Teacher of PE at Newquay Tretherras commented, ‘It was a very wet and slippy course and the students all showed incredible character and determination making everyone who supported them on the day very proud’.
