Sizzling Start To NT Chef 2016

The 2016 Newquay Tretherras Chef Competition got off to a sizzling start with a master class demonstration from the Head Chef of Café Ode at Gara Rock, Steve Lovell.

 

In front of nearly 30 students, Chef Lovell prepared a Japanese inspired Salmon Teriyaki with Sushi Style Rice and a Noodle Salad, followed by Chocolate Chip Cookies with Cream and Chocolate Work.

 

This session marked the launch of the 2016 NT Chef competition, which is now in its 3rd year and is set to be the biggest year so far. Over 30 students have signed up to compete in a variety of heats for the coveted title.

 

Starting with Year 7′s, the heats will run right up until May, with each year groups competing amongst themselves, before reaching the semi-finals and final when year groups will be mixed up a little.

 

As well as the heats, NT Chef will see additional guest chefs coming into Newquay Tretherras to speak to the students and demonstrate them how they put together their dishes and food.

 

Nick Evans of Rick Stein’s St Petroc’s Bistro, Padstow, Phil Oakes of Cornwall College, and Ben Arthur of Fistral Beach Hotel are all booked into for demonstrating.

 

Organiser Dave Nicholls said; “The 2016 NT Chef competition is looking to be our biggest and best competition yet, and I couldn’t be more excited. The world of cookery is a vibrate and varied field to work in so to see students getting enthused about cookery, ingredients, and putting food together, really is amazing to see. I can’t wait to see some of the dishes they come up with”.
