At Newquay Tretherras, the money raised from their Health Week’s ‘Row to Rio’ event has been totalled at an amazing £851.
The aim of the challenge was to see which Year 7 tutor distance could row the distance from Newquay to Rio De Janerio (8972km) in the fastest time.
The PTA announced that they would match whatever money was collected in order to fund new gym equipment for the school, generously donating £1000 to the event.
Students were asked to gain sponsorship individually for the event, which resulted in the top five fundraising students managing to collect nearly half of the final total. These students were Imogen Barclay (£75), Joe Knight (£67.50), Olivia Cooke (£67), Aidan Brace (£60) and Isabelle Mackenzie (£53).
Ms Mollie Leverton, Teacher of PE and event organiser said, “Thank you to the PTA, Year 7 and all those who sponsored the students as part of this challenge – a fantastic achievement by all! Following the event, it was decided by Year 7 to donate some of the money raised to The Nepal Earthquake appeal in light of recent events in the Country.”
