Outdoor Leadership

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader” John Quincy Adams.

Training our team of sixth formers in leadership, first aid, and expedition skills provides them with enviable skills in the work place. Forming the core of our provision these enthusiastic and capable young men and women are the perfect role models to the younger students.

The core programme lasts for 12 months and therefore counts for the Gold DofE volunteering section (you can also enrol for vInvolved Awards for volunteering). You will also be expected to put your skills into practice helping run activities with the younger students. This may include Bronze & Silver DofE, Climbing & Kayaking Club, Bushcraft, ASC and Junior Camp. On graduation from this programme you will receive a certificate and become a Senior NTOL Leader. If you choose to continue to volunteer you will be eligible to help out on some of the more advanced programmes such as Gold DofE. As a NTOL Leader you are very much part of the team. Much of the direction of Outdoor Learning at Tretherras comes from you and it is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills.

We run a programme of skills development throughout the year and there is also the opportunity to use the portfolio from this to attain ASDAN qualifications including the Short Course in Leadership and the Certificate of Personal Effectiveness worth up to 70 UCAS points with participating universities.
