Newquay Tretherras Students celebrated the Queen’s Birthday by hosting a Tea Party for members of Age UK in Newquay!
The party was initiated by Mrs Sharon Nettleton, Living Well Project Leader for Age UK.
An afternoon tea party was held in the Wave Centre at Newquay Tretherras to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The event was a chance for the students to experience a traditional Great British tea party celebration as well as listen to stories about Her Majesty, told by guests.
Head Boy and Girl, Vincenzo Emmanuel-Thomas and Karriad Shawcross, welcomed guests to the party, whilst students sat with visitors and discussed the celebrations.
Students in Year 10 had prepared a fine selection of cakes, cupcakes and sandwiches for the party and also arranged entertainment, with solo and duet music performances and a special NT Drama performance.
Age UK guest Marvin, told his extraordinary experience of having hand-knitted items for the Royal family for over 13 years. His pieces have been used by The Queen Mother, the royal children as they left the hospital after birth and by The Queen herself.
A special birthday cake was made by Tretherras student Kellie Olivant (Year 10) , decorated with images of HRM and protected by Royal guards.
Head of Learning Support at Newquay Tretherras, Miss Hayley Coombes commented, ‘I am delighted that we are celebrating the Queen’s birthday with our students and the community. It is wonderful to see our students engaging with our guests and exchanging such wonderful stories. It has made a memorable day very special.’
