On 20th March, a team of students from Newquay Tretherras travelled to London to take part in the National Junior Indoor Rowing Competition.
Tretherras were the only Cornish school to qualify for the event which saw over 2,700 competitors attend, including some of London’s best rowers from top clubs.
The team achieved some fantastic results overall, with 8 of the 10 students in the group gaining personal bests.
There were also outstanding individual results, including Year 7 student Ellie Mares coming 2nd out of 232 competitors whilst Gerran Hawkey came 6th out of 166 competitors.
The team’s coach, Mrs Kay Pender commented, “The students have excelled themselves this year and have been a credit to the school. Although some of them are relatively new to indoor rowing, and have other sporting and academic commitments, they have achieved some fantastic results and have shown a dedicated approach to representing the school.”
