Geographers Test their Map Skills

Year 7 students at Newquay Tretherras enhanced their geographical knowledge when they took part in a map reading field trip around the local area recently.

The students learned about the local geography as well as being taught how to read an Ordnance Survey map. Groups then walked some of the coastal path past Lusty Glaze and Porth, before being asked to use their maps to guide their teams back to school.

Mr Tristan White, Teacher of Geography at Tretherras said, “In these days of digital mapping and Satnav, it was great to see the students so involved with traditional map-reading, as I don’t think they realised how much fun can be had doing you own navigation and not relying on a machine!”
