Newquay Tretherras did exceptionally well at the County Schools Cross Country Championship, where 14 of their 30 runners managed to qualify for the Cornwall County Teams – the highest number the school has ever had.
With around 15 schools entering the competition, and close to 40 runners per race, competition on the day was fierce.
Bradley McLellan won the Year 7 Boys event by nearly a minute, whilst Elowen Penfold won the Junior Girls Event with a strong sprint finish.
Other notable successes included Shannon Beckerleg placing third in Year 10, Charlotte Cayton-Smith taking third in Senior Girls, and Erin Burt coming 5th in the Junior Girls event – even after losing a shoe at the start line!
Additionally, Tom Luton came third in Year 11 and Noah Bygrave placed sixth in the same race whilst taking eight minutes off his time from the same race last year
Mr Dean Bettle commented, “We are immensely proud and were so lucky to observe the students’ bravery, commitment and determination during the races.”
