A selection of Year 8 and Year 9 Newquay Tretherras musicians were treated to a creative workshop with associate musicians from the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra on Thursday 9 November.
Using the poem Storm on the Island by Seamus Heaney as inspiration for the composition students worked collaboratively under the direction of Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Associate Matt Harrison.
The students responded brilliantly and created an effective and atmospheric piece. The especially poignant ending to the piece was a nod to the ‘Last Post’ performed by Matthew Alecock-Smith and accompanied by a number of drummers.
The resulting work can be heard here.
