Bronze Award for Year 9 students!

Making the most of the Cornish sunshine this term Newquay Tretherras Outdoor Learning have seen both Year 9 and Year 10 students go through their Bronze DofE Award in the beautiful local countryside.

The Tretherras adventurers carried all they needed for two days of camping out and prepared themselves for tiring work on their ventures. All did extremely well as many of them already completed their Volunteering, Skills and Physical sections. This expedition completes the set of and they will have achieved their Bronze Award this term.

It has been the first year Newquay Tretherras has been able to run the Bronze award with Year 9 students because of DofE policy change. It will mean that through a phased transition, students will be able to take on the Silver Award early in Year 10 freeing them up in Year 11 to concentrate on their exams.

Chris Lucas, Head of Outdoor Learning at Newquay Tretherras commented,
“The students have done themselves proud and hopefully many will go on to do the Silver Award. It is always exciting seeing these great young people making their first steps into hiking and camping and I hope they go on to have many fantastic adventures to come!”
