Newquay Tretherras Sixth Form students are celebrating a record set of exam results this year. 54% of students achieved A*-B grades, with 100% pass rates at A Level, the highest ever in the school’s history.

83% of A Level grades were at C grade or above. The average pass grade for Vocational subjects was Distinction Star* (the highest award), with 82% of students gaining Distinction/Distinction Star* grades. Again, Vocational subjects enjoyed 100% pass rates.

The number of students gaining A* grades rose again to 16 in total and the performance measures of Average Points per Entry and Total Points Scores are both above national averages. In all, 12 subjects achieved pass rates above 50% A* – B, and our Art, English Literature and Sociology departments achieved amongst the best results nationally.

As a result of these fantastic grades, Tretherras students will take up places at the UK’s top Universities, including 20% at the prestigious Russell Group Universities.

Top A Level Performers include:

Noah Merrin with 3 A* passes in English Literature, Spanish and EPQ and an A in History.

Lowenna Merritt achieved 3 A* passes in English Literature, Art and EPQ and an A in Media Studies.

Vincenzo Emmanuel-Thomas scored A* in History and English Literature, with an A in Ethics and Philosophy and B in Maths.

Isis Dockery, Abi Cayton-Smith and Molly Grosvenor gained 3 A grades.

Matthew Burton, Cameron Burt, Angus Cullen, Liam Coad, Ben Fish, Jordan Hawkins, Zoe Hopkins, Jake Mottershead, Ella O’ Brien, Harry Pleasants and Tommy Rodda all gained 3 Distinction Star* grades (the equivalent to 3 A* grades at A Level) in their Cambridge Technical Awards, which is a fantastic achievement.

Year 12 students also celebrated a record breaking year with 42% achieving A-B grades. Tia Wright, Rachel Millington, Joseph Cave, Rachel Baxter and Louis Emmanuel achieved straight A grades in all their subjects.

Headteacher Samantha Fairbairn said ‘We couldn’t be more proud of our students’ success. They have worked incredibly hard and they can now enjoy their well deserved rewards. Special thanks must go our fantastic staff, the dedicated sixth form team for their great support and to our parents, who have worked with us every step of the way with these fantastic young people over their seven years at Tretherras.’

Chair of Newquay Education Trust, Sarah Karkeek, said “We are absolutely thrilled by these outstanding results which have broken all our records. My heartfelt congratulations go to the students, families and staff who all worked so hard to achieve this; they richly deserve their success”.
